Whether you’re planning a trip to Florida or already live there and want to take a staycation, there are several activities to enjoy in the Davis Islands. Although it’s a small area, it’s packed with things to do! You could have a picnic at Seaplane Basin, play fetch at Davis Island Dog Beach, or sample gourmet chocolates at the Tebella Tea Company. Here are some ideas for a family outing south of Tampa.

Recreation

What better way to appreciate the Sunshine State than to head outdoors? There are several opportunities for recreation in the Davis Islands.

Roy Jenkins Pool

On a hot day, this outdoor community pool is fun for the whole family. It has clean restrooms, a separate kids’ pool with water features, and changing rooms with showers.

The pool is also fully staffed with lifeguards, making it a great place to learn how to swim. According to a Gallup poll, 55% of people over age 15 don’t know how to swim, but it’s an important skill to have — especially in Florida.

Davis Islands Beach

Bask in the sand and surf of Tampa Bay at Davis Islands Beach. It’s calm, quiet, and a perfect place to watch the sunset. Keep in mind that there are no restrooms or other facilities at this beach, but it’s just a few minutes away from town.

Davis Island Dog Beach

Right next to the main Davis Islands Beach is the Davis Island Dog Beach, which features a waterfront dog park, a water fountain, and a wash station. Unleashed dogs are allowed, so exercise caution if your pup is reactive around other dogs. Always remember to pick up after your dog to keep the beach clean.

Seaplane Basin Park

Seaplane Basin Park is a well-maintained, grassy park with tables, benches, and walking trails. There are lots of trees for shade. From Seaplane Basin Park, you get a view of the commercial boat docks and can watch planes going in for a landing at the nearby airport. Seaplane Basin also features a dog park and a bicycle repair station.

Davis Islands Park

This waterside park has a playground with slides, swings, and a jungle gym shaded by oak trees. Bring your own food and drinks and watch a game at the nearby baseball field. Davis Islands Park has restrooms and water fountains.

Steady Action Fishing Charters

Spend the day on a chartered boat and catch some fish! Whether you’re a seasoned angler or want someone to show you the ropes, Steady Action creates customized trips tailored to different skill levels. The tours accommodate up to six people, and the price includes bait, tackle, a fishing license, rods and reels, fuel, and ice. The guides will also clean and bag your fish.
